Hey Neighbor !

As the founder of a non-profit, I’ve demonstrated the ability to harness the voices and strengths of community members to create an advocacy group for families with children on the autism spectrum and to create more awareness of students’ needs. I work actively to highlight the voices and experiences of others to ensure that our diverse community and needs are met by schools. My experience with Boston Public Schools has given me insight into navigating a complex school district while managing the priorities of multiple stakeholders.

Community Partnerships

Partnerships with community organizations is a key way to engage Randolph residents and ensure the voices of concerned citizens are heard. Yahaira Lopez has founded her own community foundation, Autism Sprinter, and recognizes the importance of advocacy, resources and support these groups provide. I will find additional innovative ways to reach out to parents and community stakeholders. I will advocate setting up a bimonthly listening sessions for parents and . community members to gather input and support on the issues facing our school district. Yahaira's close relationships with the Randolph Foundation for Education and Randolph Youth Council, among others, means she is ready to formalize those relationships when she joins the committee.

Funding Our Schools

Yahaira beleives that the budget process should prioritize the most pressing needs of our students and educators. She will advocate for a participatory budget process where parents, students, residents, and community businesses have direct input in the allocation process. Yahaira is committed to investing funds in smaller class sizes for all schools as well as developing and implementing a school-wide literacy and mathematics action plan.

Qualified Educators and Administrators

Yahaira Lopez is committed to developing a community-based hiring system in the search for the new superintendent. She believes we should explore new ways to attract and retain educators with backgrounds in social and emotional development. I will gather resident input on hiring qualified administrators, staff and Superintendent. I will also implement quarterly update presentations from the Randolph Public Schools HR department, which will be televised for the public during school committee meetings.

Transparency

The current budget reporting process is inadequate. The Randolph community deserves to not only know what goes into developing the budget but to actively engage in the process. Yahaira will ensure Randolph Public Schools exercises transparency by making sure meeting calendars are sent out via social media, email, sent home with students, and posted online.
